Irbaan is a Masai village in rural remote Kenya. When A Better World found the school, the teacher was holding classes in a dilapidated metal shack with a dirt floor and no door or windows. Donors stepped up and 4 years later there are 3 classrooms, an office, washrooms and a teacher's residence onsite. Kitchen and pre-school buildings are under construction and nearing completion. During a visit to the site last year volunteers from A Better World noticed while the buildings and learning have been greatly improved, the living conditions for the students are still not great. During a brainstorming session the Irbaan Shoe Project was born. Local Red Deer artist Shauna Dunbar has generously volunteered to make copies of her painting "In My Shoes" available to A Better World for fund raising. The project selected for this year is the Irbaan School Shoe Project. Money raised will buy shoes for 179 school children who are doing extra school work or chores to earn their new shoes. Many of these children walk up to seven kilometres a day each way to attend school. New shoes will literally go a long way to help them with their education.
