Irbaan School Update

SchoolThe Irbaan school A Better World Canada built with funds from Balmoral Bible Chapel is up and running with teachers hired and many kids coming regularly. The fresh water provided by the new well is providing clean water to the community and they are now able to offset some of their expenses by selling water to a local humanitarian camp. A few months ago the Deacons learned that the next pressing need at Irbaan was washroom facilities for the students and staff. The Deacons approved a $5000 expenditure from money designated to A Better World to construct toilets and a wash area for the school. The work on this is now completed. Thank you so much for your generosity in giving to this project and vastly improving the living and learning conditions in the Irbaan area.
Another need had come to light. The teachers at the school are eating and sleeping in their classrooms as they are not from Irbaan and do not make enough money to obtain alternate accommodation. The land at the school is large enough to build suitable living accommodations on, so plans were drawn up and a budget of $25,000 presented. The work has been started with funds from A Better World and individuals from Balmoral. We understand the project is nearing completion. A Better World is still accepting funds to pay for this project. If this is something you would like to participate in financially please mark your gift for "A Better World Teacher Housing".

This Year's Tour to Africa

SignEach year Eric Rajah of A Better World organizes a tour during which project sponsors can visit the project they are connected with (combined with sightseeing and an exciting safari experience). In November, the Northey and Roberts families are going on this tour. They will inspect and review many of the ongoing projects of A Better World including ours at Irbaan School. During the project visits there is opportunity to build on the relationship we have with the local people and celebrate our partnership. They will also be able to hear directly reports from the school staff and local leaders on progress with the children and hear of needs they still have. We understand they would like a Pastor. What exactly does this mean? They will try and find out. They will also take with them items collected by the Promiseland children.

Promiseland Makes a Difference

School_and_KidsOur involvement with the Irbaan school is all about making a difference for the Maasai children. The Promiseland teachers want to help our children develop a relationship with the Irbaan school children. We have sent useful items out there in the past which they have been grateful for. This year they are collecting underwear and socks to send out with The Northey's and the Robert's.
