Earth moving equipment can be seen operating to the north of the Chapel. The photo above is what will become a new subdivision called Timberlands. This is the beginning of a huge development involving three, one quarter sections. In a few years, a large commercial district and some 2685 dwellings will be built, according to plans by three developers.

These three developments: Clearview North, Timberlands, and Timberstone Park, are part of an overall plan for the East Hill which was adopted the City in December 0f 2005. Each of these developments has it's own detailed Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan which can be found on the City of Red Deer website. (See the graphic to the right, showing the location of these developments relative to Balmoral Bible Chapel.) The north half of the Timberlands development represents an interesting concept called the "Town Centre" District. This concept extends to the north east corner of the Clearview North development. The Town Centre is expected to be a mix of retail, personal service, and multifamily housing which will attempt to be "pedestrian friendly". Some ground floor businesses will have upper floor residential uses, much like the small prairie towns of yesteryear. Clearly the rate at which these developments are completed will depend on market demand, but one could expect that by 2015 the East Hill will be totally transformed from a rural to a fully urban landscape. The chart below summarizes the number of dwellings planned in each development, with totals.
